I know people from other countries work and reside here and that is fine. When I went overseas in the military we had to drive in other countries and take test for thier laws which is good because the authorities know who is doing what in thier country. Give temp. license for a reasonable period with restrictions till people become citizens(the correct way).As for Mr. James I believe he is grand standing for the camera.Let's vote on more than one issue please.

I appreciate the sentiment of James' remarks, but it may be impractical and self-damaging. For example, here in Montgomery there are some visitors from out of the country who come for military training and need to be able to drive. They know English well enough to converse, but may not do so well on a written technical test. The state could make exceptions for short-term visitors like tourists, military and foreign students. But if there is an exception, it doesn't much change the status quo. An oral exam might be a good compromise. On the other question, I do think the remarks he made makes Alabama seem closed off and small-minded. I care about our image in the context of attracting industry. We also need to consider how our college graduates are received if they pursue work outside the state. We can act as if it doesn't matter if people outside Alabama don't like us, but we are only hurting ourselves if we ignore our state's reputation.

The key word from the above post, FDR INVITED. Yes, our country is founded on immigration. But they came here legally because they were INVITED. And they loved our country and couldn't wait to learn to speak English. I grew up hearing stories from my grandparents, who were actually ashamed of their accent because they wanted to be considered 100% American. It is far different than these ILLEGALS who expect us to cater to them and their heritage. If they are that proud of Mexico they need to stay there. I am all for immigration, but not ILLEGAL-sneaking across our borders in the middle of the night-immigration. If you come into this country legally through the proper channels, learn to speak and write English, get a job and pay taxes, I welcome you with open arms and call you my brother.
Anyways, I do think that ad is effective, but I don't know if I would vote for him based only on that, I would need to see where he stands on other issues.

i want to make sure people understand why these problems exist in the first place... president FDR invited mexicans and guatemalans to come and work here during world war II. at the end of this project, there were over 3,000,000,000 "newer" immigrants in the U.S. this new tradition was continued and reinforced by the beef industry. millions of mexicans were bussed in to the U.S. for decades, to work for cheap, while the government turned a blind eye. we need need not take out our anger and frustrations on the immigrants them selves, when it was the U.S. that created the problem in the first place. unless your great grandfather had a feather in his hair, you're an immigrant too.

VOTE NO to TIM JAMES. I am not an out of state resident. I want illegal immigrants sent home. I am a Republican that leans to conservative.

I do not want the racist Tim James elected for the rediculous "we speak English here". This is a beautiful state, with a family focus and still have the spirit of the individualism. That said we cannot allow our state to be stolen by racist.

God did not speak English would we send him packing?

VOTE NO TIM JAMES

I am not against immigration, just against illegal immigration. We will become another lawless state and country if the laws are not enforeced. The US Government will not perform its duty and purpose, therefore, the States had better stand up. One more thing, what language are the street signs that Alabama Drives must adhere to?

It is about time our leaders spoke up for English speaking, God fearing, common sense Americans. I can't remember the last time I heard someone with the guts speak up and tell it like it is. Of course I an racist and a bigot for thinking anyone who lives here should act and speak English. If not go to Canada.

Are the traffic direction and warning signs in 12 languages? No? Then they better know how to read and understand English or everyone else on the highway is at risk.
