The Party’s Over, Now What?
Posted on April 16, 2009 by Alabama Tea Blogger
Thousands of Alabamians attended Tea Parties this week from the Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast. Now the question is what’s next? Here are steps you can take over the next few days or weeks to keep the momentum going. By the way, it looks like there are eight more events scheduled between now and November 2010, so keep a look out for other opportunities to participate.
7 Steps to Continue the Cause
1. Call your Congressional representative in Washington DC, State representative in Montgomery, and your local officials to let them know you want them to vote against more taxes and will support lowering taxes.
2. Put your elected officials on speed dial. Let’s face it if you have to look up their number every time you’re angry you will never call. Besides look at some of the people you already have listed in your cell phone, who you never call anyway.
3. Stay informed with newsletters which provide valuable information to support your stance, which will allow you to articulate your views to others. Here are some of my favorites. (Heritage.org, taxteaparty.com, AlabamaTeaParty.net)
4. Sign up at taxdayteaparty.com by rsvping: http://taxdayteaparty.com/rsvp/. This helps your local organizer be able to collaborate and keep in touch with you after April 15th. (Local organizers can access user data based on ZIP code tags)
5. Sign up for text messages from Tax Day Tea Party. To receive nationwide updates on the Tea Parties by text message, text “teaparty” to 69302!
6. Get involved with social media such as Facebook, Twitter, My Space, and Comment to Online news stories. It is a great way to network with like minded people, and allows your voice to be heard daily. Also, while online, invite younger people to the events in your area.
7. Buy a copy of Liberty and Tyranny and the Fair Tax. Liberty and Tyranny by Mark Levin is on the best sellers list and is billed as a conservative manifesto. While The Fair Tax has been around for a couple of years, it is now being seen as a viable alternative to our current tax code. I also suggest you buy one for a teacher, so we can improve the level of education our children are receiving. You can buy them on Amazon by going to the links below.

What’s next after April 15 tea parties? A third party, a new political party, called the Tea Party, a new party that doesn’t have to advertise and find members. The groundswell is already out there, all these Americans who support the tea parties are the constituents for the new Tea Party. People, now, need a party name to unite under, a party under which to field political candidates in local, state, federal elections in 2010. Even Ed Rollins, an old Reagan political expert said it on Lou Dobbs, Nov. 5, 2008: Rollins expressed the opinion that it is time to change the label and shoot the elephant. Time is wasting, keep the momentum. Do something about the problem by electing Tea Party candidates to office. There is time. We’ve got a year to get it done. Find good candidates and get Tea Party candidates on the ballot.

Why not send as many as possible from every state in the U.S.? It can be done, just do it.

The party is not over. It’s just beginning. The next step is to form a new political party called the Tea Party. The Tea Party will not have to search for members, we are already here, at least half a million of us attended tea parties on April 15. Now, we need a party name under which to unite and to field candidates for local, state and federal office. We need to start signing petitions and taking care of the paperwork necessary to run Tea Party candidates for office in every state. We’ve got plenty of new blood, brains, and backbone, all we need to do is place Tea Party candidates on the ballots and vote them into office. Consider what Ed Rollins (an old Reagan friend and political expert) said on Lou Dobbs on Nov.5, 2008. Rollins expressed the opinion that the Republican Party has been crushed, that it is time for us to change the brand and shoot the elephant. The new brand is the Tea Party and the supporters of that party are people who attend or support the tea parties. It can be done. Just do it!

The big $64 dollar question is: NOW WHAT? The answer to the what now question is: we must keep The American Tea Party momentum going and not just limping along, but with full throttle!! All Americans surely must be slowly wakening up to see what’s happening in our country. We are being smothered in big government programs affecting every facet of our lives and we are expected to bank roll them into happening. I agree with Ed Rollins while on CNN after the Nov 4th election…we better find the biggest elephant gun around to shoot that elephant which has been trampling all over us in the name of conservatism and find a big hole to bury it in!! The Repubs have tried to hijack this grassroots movement which is caught on fire…let’s keep it burning bright and LONG!

In pondering the question, what next with the Tea Party movement…I think we do need to think about a political group with a NEW brand, a NEW message and then let it be born on the next 4th of July. I believe we have enough smart and articulate people in this grassroots movement to come up with a new name…I personally like “The Tea Pary” since it already symbolizes a whole lot more than just Taxed Enough Already. Hope somebody out there thinks this is an idea which has merit and acts on it.

A new political party, whose supporters believe in the principles the Founders believed in, could be born on the 4th of July! July 4, 2009 and July 4, 1776, that has a good ring to it. The 4th of July Tea Parties could be the beginning of a new political organization that would give voters a real choice in the voting booth in 2010 and 2012.

I think getting a New Party started means having a petition created and getting X number of people to sign it. We should read our history books and see how Jefferson and Madison went about it…and they had to keep their identities under wrap because of it being called “treason.” And thanks to our Constitution we don’t have to hide our identities to line up behind a movement which will probably save our Constitution – because without It — we are no longer a free Country. If I can see the erosion of our Constitution, I sure hope others can, too!! Stop listening to Talking Heads who think they know what YOU should think. I got a talking head, too…I can speak with my own views and beliefs. And I believe in this country and that it was created with a Constitution, which no other country in the world can claim. We all better get the star dust out of our eyes and start seeing what has happened and is happening: we have a government at odds with our Constitution.

We need to take the GOP back to it’s roots, not start a new party. A third party is not viable, it has been tried, there are many. We all need to join forces, get rid of the Rhinos and demand the GOP leadership remain true to the US Constitution.

Last week, I read an article concerning the elitist in Washington GOP. We need them replaced with people who remember where they come from and a full understanding that they work for the people that elected them into office.
The conservatives need to listen and show comprimise with such a diverse nation. Starting from the ground floor will take time but the message should be clear. The politicians of either party should be voted out if they have forgotten their base.
